Wow it sure has been crazy this past week or so! Two gigs to finish off the 2016 San Diego County Fair (a Sunday performance on the Plaza stage on the 26th from 8-10 backed by the Exiles and a final show at the Ford Paddock Stage on July 2nd between 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm at the acoustic showcase). Then, just to top it all off I had a three-hour gig at the Robert Renzoni Winery in Temecula with an afternoon gig on the 3rd. I get dizzy just thinking about it. So sorry to all my blog followers who have been neglected these past several days as my fingers were only on the fret board and not the keyboard for the past week.
I am now trying to catch up and tell everyone about the shows. For those of you who were unable to attend, I wanted to let you know that you were missed but we had a great time and very fun performances. The Exiles accompanied me on the gig Sunday the 26th on the Plaza stage at the Fair. The show went from 8-10 pm with a fantastic crowd and a beautiful San Diego evening for all to enjoy. This was the make-up show from the Special Events department for not allowing the Exiles to accompany me on the Father's Day show. Still have no clue as to why, but the Sunday night show was great and I am always happy to play for my fans and to make some new ones too. Unfortunately, we didn't have a lot of rehearsal time (thank Special Events), but the band was great at filling in on the songs we didn’t have time to rehearse much for and they still made it sound fantastic. Here is a little taste….
With a two hour show we had to more than double our set list from 10 songs to over 20 songs. It gave me more time to perform, but I was also a bit stressed athaving to add so many additional tunes, many of which I have only accompanied myself on before. In any event we all had a fantastic time and there were people dancing in the plaza and singing along on so many songs as well. The expanded set list allowed me to bring some additional original material as well as some covers I don’t usually have time for in a limited time show. Here is a clip of my song Best Kept Secret and some of the “Girl Group” Mashup of Destiny’s Child, Fifth Harmony, The Spice Girls and Little Mix.
The Sunday show was great and I was able to follow that up as one of the nine performers chosen for this year’s acoustic showcase on the Ford Paddock stage right behind the Grandstand (here I come Grandstand!!!!!). The stage was huge and so high up. It was a shame that I wasn’t allowed to bring Joe Norwood, a fabulous guitarist up there to accompany me (rule! rules! rules!!). We still would have looked tiny up there (as did all the performers), but at least there would have been two people on stage. HAHA!!! In any event, the show went off without a hitch and I was really happy to showcase a new cover song in Spanish for the crowd. It is a Fifth Harmony track off the Spanish version of their first EP (Better Together or Juntos in Spanish). The track is called “Sin tu Amor”. I am always asked by fans if I can sing anything in that beautiful language and while I am forced to say no usually; I decided to learn this song for the showcase,; the video of which was incidentally shot AT the San Diego Fair!!!!! It will now be one of my regular songs. I love the language and the people are pretty great as well. Here is a clip of that track.
The acoustic showcase saw a big crowd out in the Ford Paddock area all enjoying the sunshine and warm weather. The stage was so great with a dressing room and ramp leading up to the performance level. I almost thought I was in the big time already!! Everyone in the crowd were having fun and enjoying the music and I just feed off that energy. I had lots of friends and family in the crowd as well and that made it even more special.
I capped off the weekend with a gig at the Robert Renzoni winery in Temecula. The venue is absolutely gorgeous with a fantastic view of the Temecula valley and the vineyards below the wine tasting room. We were outside on the patio with a nice sunshade and water misters overhead and a great crowd. I am told that the wine was fantastic (not quite 21 yet……soooooo sooon) by friends in the crowd and the audience appeared to be enjoying the view, the drinks and the food served up at the winery. I certainly can vouch for the delicious food.
Monday was a great 4th of July and I celebrated at the beach with family and we went into San Diego for the fireworks last night. They were spectacular as always with the only downer being the traffic getting out of downtown. Today I am off to Disneyland with my cousins as they HAVE to go before they head back to the Great White North (Canada eh) on Wednesday. I have my next gig coming up on Friday night July 8th from 5-8 pm at the Cougar Vineyards in Temecula. Please try to come on out there! It is on De Portola Road on the Temecula wine trail.
HOPE TO SEE EVERYONE THERE!!!!!! UNTIL NEXT TIME!!!!
